LIVERPOOL, UK (CNN) – Police in Liverpool are investigating the death of a 12-year-old girl whose body was found in the city center over the weekend.

Pollyanna Woodward, of the Smethwick area, was found unconscious shortly before 11 p.m. on Sunday in a taxi rank in Lime Street, Liverpoool police said. She was taken to Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where she died.

Two people were taken into custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, a police statement said.

A third man was arrested on Tuesday after police discovered a boy with serious injuries in a care home in the city’s Huyton area.

The boy, who is in his early teens, remains in hospital in a stable condition, police said, without giving any further details about his injuries.

Officers believe they know the boy’s location, but are not in a position to confirm his address.

“Sadly there has been no trace of this young man after the attack and we’re keen to speak to anyone who may have seen him between then and around 11:45 p.m. to see if they can help,” Detective Superintendent Grant Rees of Merseyside Police said.

“This is such a tragic incident that has occurred and everyone will be deeply saddened to hear this news and understand how difficult this must be for the family.”

Anyone with information should contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 2474.
